This clay was a lucky find. We were enjoying the summer sunshine on a week-end getaway at the Danube riverbank when suddenly I saw something familiar.

And what made this clay even more exciting was that it was the first time I was using the harvested clay as a glaze. Yes, above certain temperatures (around 1200 °C) clay goes through vitrification and behaves as glaze.

Nagymaros

Location: Nagymaros is a small town on the left bank of the Danube river, 50 km north from Budapest.

Main points of interest: The town lies on the banks of the Danube. It is an excellent starting point for nature tours in the Börzsöny mountains, with a full panorama to the Danube Bend. There is a 550-metre-long public tunnel under the Danube between Visegrád and Nagymaros, which can be visited twice a year in an organized tour.
